Greece — is the industrial and agrarian country. The industry gives up to 45% of the national income. Extraction of bauxites, magnesites, iron ore, asbestos, chromium, manganese is conducted. The advanced mechanical engineering specializes on release of sea-going ships, tractors and agricultural machines, motor scooters, domestic appliances, conditioners. Assembly of automobiles is carried out. The chemical industry makes synthetic materials, fertilizers, detergents, fuel and oils. Textile and light industry are advanced in the country. A significant role the winemaking and manufacture of olive oil (play 3d place in the world). The most part of the electric power is made on thermoelectric power station. The important branch of economy is navigation. The main ports: Piraeus (Athens), Saloniki. Greece exports agricultural products, sewing and textile products, and raw material basically to the countries of Europe. Besides raise wheat, barley, corn, vegetables. The cattle- breeding is advanced poorly. They breed cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and donkeys. The non-productive sector makes more than half of total national product. Tourism brings the basic income. Also Greece receives the share from participation in EU in the size approximately 4% from gross national product. Tourism brings to the country the big incomes — up to 3,3 billion dollars a year. Athens, Crete, Rhodes, Kos are the most popular among tourists. |
